Well tomorrows weather looks to be a lot better than last weeks and we have Kelli Bland scheduled to come back for our drawing pleasure.
Apologies to everyone for last weeks cancellation and for any inconvenience. I hope you can appreciate that the cancellation was more for the model’s sake than ours. Modeling is an extremely strenuous activity, even painful, and the last thing we want to is to push them too hard in the extreme heat. As it looks to be a long hot Summer we may have to keep an eye on the thermometer but we will try our best to avoid canceling as much as possible. Please check your email or the blog before you head out just to make sure. Last weeks heat was a bit of a surprise and it wasn’t until around 4:30 that I realized it was 104 out (made even worse by the fact thatI had to ride my bike home in it) and it just seems like too much to ask of our model to try and work in that.
Anyway, we will be in there tomorrow and we’re looking forward to seeing everyone then.
“Artists today think of everything they do as a work of art. It is important to forget about what you are doing – then a work of art may happen.” ~ Andrew Wyeth
Sorry for the late notice but we’re going to cancel tonights session due to the fact that it’s surface of the sun hot out (104). Hopefully everyone will get this message but we feel like it will just be too much for the model in this heat and she agrees.
That’s it. Apologies for any inconvenience and hopefully we’ll see you next week.
Tomorrow night (June 17) we have the infamous Kelli Bland modeling for us under the watchful eye of our newest host, J Haley who will be taking over Doug Weber’s duties for the group.
Apologies for the short notice but I just wanted to let everyone know that tomorrow night our own Doug Weber (http://www.dougwebersart.com/) will be having a last opening at Pump and I will be showing a few paintings and photographs as well.
As some of you know, Doug is leaving Austin next week to go back to Boston to finish his degree at our old school. Doug and I started this venture just under a year ago after drawing and painting together for a good while before coming to Pump. He has been the real driving force behind Night Moves and I will miss him dearly as I’m sure many of you will as well.
I hope you can all come out and say good bye to our friend, have a beer or 3 and maybe pick up a painting, drawing, woodcut or 2! They’re on sale!
“Look at your work and it tells you how it is when you hold back or when you embrace. When you are lazy, your art is lazy; when you hold back, it holds back; when you hesitate, it stands there staring, hands in its pockets. But when you commit, it comes on like blazes.”
I found out yesterday that a friend of mine and a fellow painter has passed away unexpectedly.
Lawrence Hollien was an incredible person and an extraordinary painter in the Surrealist tradition. I’m not really sure what else to say but I wanted to share this video of some of his work. Please take a moment to check it out.
Lawrence’s passing is a grim reminder that life is too short and we should try our best to enjoy and take advantage of every precious moment of our time.
After many requests we have decided to go back to drawing on Wednesday nights and drop the Tuesdays, starting next week.
I’ll send out another reminder with the regular email next week but just wanted to give everyone a heads up today. Hopefully this works out for everyone and will allow a few people who couldn’t make the Tuesday sessions to come back and join us again.
Also, if you’d like to sign up for the email or have friends who might like to join our list please shoot me a request with your name and address at scott@nightmovesart.com
